The department promotes a dual focus on commercial and high-end fine jewellery with an emphasis on conceptual design. The Jewellery Design Department is committed to being the leading driver of advanced computer-aided design and manufacturing technology in the industry.

The aim of the course is to prepare students for Jewellery Industry in design, manufacturing, marketing and managerial capacities while fostering a South African design ethic that does not rely on mass plagiarism of imported images.

the course will equip you with the skills to design and manufacture jewellery, from the preparation of materials, through to adding the final touches to your sparkling creation.

The course objectives include: drawing on historical studies that heighten design awareness; developing applied drawing and illustration techniques; developing skills to communicate design intention; developing technical skills to manufacture jewellery by hand and using digital technologies, all the while instilling good workshop practice.
