The emergence and convergence of interdisciplinary new technologies, including advanced robotic systems from micro to macro scale, the Internet of Things, smart cyber-physical systems, new energies, 3D printing and smart materials, have paved the way for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which will lead to the smart industry and the development of smart cities.

Examples of this development include smart manufacturing and production, the Industrial Internet of Things, smart energy networks, autonomous transportation systems, medical robotics, the Internet of Things in the field of health, advanced rehabilitation technologies, smart measurement systems and virtual reality.

As a first step towards training specialists in the field of industrial, urban and new energy technologies and with the aim of developing knowledge-based employment, the Master of Science in Mechatronics Engineering has been launched since 2018 by the faculty members of the Faculty of Basic Sciences & Engineering.
