Smart and Cognitive Technologies

The central focus of Smart Technologies and Cognitive Sciences is the human mind. Cognitive science is a novel, dynamic, interdisciplinary, and future-oriented field in which the brain and its cognitive processes and functions are systematically and scientifically studied. Technologies emerging from this field, in interaction with converging fields of knowledge and technology—including biotechnology, nanotechnology, and information technology—can contribute to improving human quality of life, addressing limitations resulting from brain injuries, developing intelligent systems, and enabling the optimal use of the human mind and intellectual capacities.

Cognitive science is one of the emerging fields that, together with nanotechnology, biotechnology, and information technology, constitutes the broader domain of converging technologies. This interdisciplinary field draws upon neuroscience, psychology, linguistics, artificial intelligence, and the philosophy of mind. It has also found extensive applications in a wide range of related fields, including medicine, education, sociology, political science, information science, communication and mass media, biomedical engineering, control and automation engineering, and even defense and military sciences.

Numerous research institutes and universities around the world are engaged in cognitive science research, seeking to explore the mysteries of humanity’s greatest asset—the brain and the mind—and to gain a deeper understanding of their functions as among the most sophisticated and complex gifts of creation.

In line with these objectives, the Faculty of Novel Interdisciplinary Technologies at the University of Neyshabur, drawing upon its available facilities, laboratory equipment, and academic expertise, began its activities in 2023 by admitting students to the M.Sc. program in Artificial Intelligence in Medicine.
